    Birmingham City Council’s improvements in its financial management have been described as ‘exemplary’ in a new report from the leading professional institute for local government finance. An independent report from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) is based on a review of financial management capability against CIPFA’s five-star model. It ranked the council as a three-star authority, up from the one-star rating awarded in July 2019 and delivered a year ahead of schedule.     BOSTON —In the six years she has been Massachusetts Attorney General, Maura Healey has not taken legal action in any of the 13 cases where evidence of violations of campaign finance law were turned over by the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance. According to the Boston Globe, which first reported this story, four of the investigations are active and one was turned over to an outside prosecutor after Healey recused herself.     Lending platform Kabbage issued PPP loans worth $7 million to fake recipients: report

    CPA and market analyst Dan Geltrude unpacks President Biden’s tax proposals, arguing the administration’s potential policies will damage small businesses. About 378 small business loans from the Paycheck Protection Program totaling $7 million were given to fake entities, the majority of which were posing as farms, according to a new report by ProPublica.  ProPublica says the loans were disbursed through a fintech lending platform launched in 2009 called Kabbage, which processed nearly 300,000 Paycheck Protection Program loans before the first round of funds ran out in August 2020, second only to Bank of America.  CONNECTICUT WILL PAY UNEMPLOYED RESIDENTS
